Eligibility Requirements

  • Citizenship: Must be a legal citizen of the United States or permanent resident (green card holder)
  • Residency: Must live in a public housing authority property or property with a Housing Choice Voucher administered by a housing authority insured by HAI Group
  • Education Status: Must be attending one of the following institutions in fall 2026:
  • - Accredited or licensed technical school - Two-year college or university - Four-year college or university - Master's degree or PhD program
  • Age: No age restriction; if under 18, guardian must sign affidavit form
  • Application Limit: May apply once per year
  • Residency Requirement: Only proof of residency required for first year; eligible to receive scholarship for up to 4 consecutive years even if moves to different property

Award Usage

  • Funds sent directly to school
  • Can be used for tuition, school supplies (purchased through school), or books
  • For fall 2026 academic term; any remaining funds may be used for winter 2026, spring 2027, and summer 2027 semesters
  • Cannot be used for past tuition expenses
  • School holds funds in F.B.O. (For the Benefit Of) account
  • All remaining funds must be returned by September 1, 2027

How to Apply

Application Process

Step 1 – Submit Online Application

  • Access online application at HAI Group website

  • Enter: name, address, contact information, housing agency name

  • Attach all required documents

  • Receive confirmation email upon submission
  • Required Documents:

  • Affidavit Form (completed by applicant; if under 18, signed by guardian - include all pages)

  • Proof of Residency Form (completed by FSSC or resident services coordinator at housing agency)
  • Step 2 – Selection of Recipients

  • Only complete applications from eligible participants enter random drawing

  • Number of new recipient slots depends on how many previous recipients renew

  • New applicants selected via random drawing by authorized HAI Group employee

  • Drawing held approximately June 5, 2026
  • Step 3 – Notification

  • Selected recipients notified via email from scholarship@haigroup.com

  • May require additional documents such as proof of enrollment form from school

  • Must respond to contact attempts or scholarship deemed rejected

  • Unselected applicants notified via email after all recipients confirmed
  • Step 4 – Award and Payment

  • $6,000 check sent directly to college/institute (not to student)

  • Payment issued after all required documents received and verified

  • School responsible for holding funds in F.B.O. account

  • School notified to return remaining funds after summer 2027 semester by September 1, 2027
