RDML Helena Mishoe Diversity "BELIEVE" Scholarship

Overview: The RDML Helena O. Mishoe Diversity "BELIEVE" Scholarship was established to encourage and support the career dreams of high school seniors from populations burdened by challenges that are underrepresented in the health sciences, research, and health-related disciplines. The scholarship helps students realize their dreams of obtaining a college education in health sciences or health-related fields to promote improved health in the United States.

Status: As of 2024, the scholarship has been integrated into the foundation's Family Member Scholarship program.

Named After: Helena O. Mishoe, PhD, MPH, retired Rear Admiral of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service. RDML Mishoe's public service and scientific career spanned over three decades at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with 27 years on active duty in the USPHS Commissioned Corps.

Inspiration: The scholarship is inspired by RDML Mishoe's favorite quote from one of her students: "Hope emerges and the future begins for one person only when there is another who believes in the beauty of their dreams."
