Pediatrics/OB/NICU Grants

Overview: Salem Health Foundation supports various pediatric, obstetric, and neonatal intensive care programs.

Programs Funded (2023-2024):

  • Perinatal Bereavement Support: Since February 2015, supports Labor & Delivery Unit's bereavement program for families experiencing infant loss. In partnership with Fig Jewelry, provides custom-made necklaces to each family (average 4 per month, ranging from 0-10 per month since May 2015)

  • Child Car Seat Safety Net Program: Ensures no child leaves hospital without safe ride home; provides free car seats to families who cannot afford them or lack proper equipment. Serves Mother/Baby Unit, Pediatrics department, and NICU

  • Thermometers for Pediatric Patients: Provides thermometers to families unable to afford them; tools for early detection of severe neonatal illness

  • Stuffed Animals for Pediatric Patients: Funds purchase of 540 stuffed animals annually to comfort children during painful procedures

  • NICU Parent Advisory Council: Monthly meetings providing gifts, crafts, social engagement, and treats to inpatient NICU families. Serves approximately 33 infants per month (400 patients per year)

  • Diaper Depot: Provides free diapers to low-income families in partnership with 11 local food shelters and community partners
