Program Description:
The Patient Navigation Internship Program provides undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to work directly with patients and gain valuable insights into potential healthcare barriers. Interns help address social determinants of health and remove barriers to healthcare access.

Key Focus Areas

• Help address social determinants of health barriers to healthcare for patients
• Assist patients with barriers to specialist and diagnostic testing
• Work with care coordinators to identify available resources
• Help patients navigate the healthcare system and manage the referral process
• Shadow HealthSource of Ohio clinicians to understand clinical roles, patient-clinician relationships, and treatment planning

Eligibility Requirements

• Age: Must be 18 years of age or older
• Education: Currently enrolled in a college or university
• Background: Pre-health students and those interested in careers in healthcare/primary care preferred
• Skills: Good communication skills; ability to work well in team environments
• Training: Must attend mandatory HealthSource of Ohio Patient Navigation Internship orientation-training

Program Commitment

• Duration: 1-year commitment required
• Hours: 4 hours per week (minimum 150 hours total)
• Time Off: 12 weeks' time-off available upon request
