Patient Navigation Internship

Program Description:
The Patient Navigation Internship Program provides undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to work directly with patients and gain valuable insights into potential healthcare barriers. Interns help address social determinants of health and remove barriers to healthcare access.
- Help address social determinants of health barriers to healthcare for patients
- Assist patients with barriers to specialist and diagnostic testing
- Work with care coordinators to identify available resources
- Help patients navigate the healthcare system and manage the referral process
- Shadow HealthSource of Ohio clinicians to understand clinical roles, patient-clinician relationships, and treatment planning
Key Focus Areas
- Age: Must be 18 years of age or older
- Education: Currently enrolled in a college or university
- Background: Pre-health students and those interested in careers in healthcare/primary care preferred
- Skills: Good communication skills; ability to work well in team environments
- Training: Must attend mandatory HealthSource of Ohio Patient Navigation Internship orientation-training
Eligibility Requirements
- Duration: 1-year commitment required
- Hours: 4 hours per week (minimum 150 hours total)
- Time Off: 12 weeks' time-off available upon request
