Overview

P.E.O. STAR Scholarship

Overview: A non-renewable scholarship for graduating women in their final year of high school. STAR stands for recognition and encouragement of academic excellence.

Award Amount: $2,500 (non-renewable)

Important Note: Scholarship must be used in the academic year following graduation or it will be forfeited.

Geographic Scope: United States and Canada

Focus Areas: Recognizes and encourages academic excellence and achievement by women planning to pursue postsecondary education.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be recommended by a local P.E.O. chapter

  • Be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States or Canada

  • Have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success

  • Plan to attend an accredited postsecondary education institution in the United States or Canada full time or part time in the fall of the academic year following high school graduation

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Chapter Recommendation Phase:
    - Members of a local P.E.O. chapter interview the student
    - Chapter decides whether to recommend the student

    2. Online Application Submission:
    - After local chapter recommends a student, P.E.O. Executive Office emails applicant instructions for logging into online account
    - Student must submit application within 30 days of receiving the email

    3. Required Materials:
    - Information about the student
    - Information about extracurricular activities
    - Information about community service/volunteer activities
    - 700-word essay
    - Two letters of recommendation
    - Unofficial high school transcript (through 11th grade/junior year)

    4. Award Notification:
    - Awards announced annually by April 30
    - Notification sent to all applicants and recommending chapters
