Overview

P.E.O. STAR Scholarship

Purpose: Non-renewable $2,500 scholarship for graduating women in their final year of high school. Award must be used in the academic year following graduation or will be forfeited.

Geographic Scope: United States and Canada

Award Amount: $2,500 (non-renewable)

Award Use: Must be used in academic year following high school graduation

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be recommended by a local chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood
  • Must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States or Canada
  • Must have minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must exhibit excellence in:
  • - Leadership - Academics - Extracurricular activities - Community service - Potential for future success
  • Must plan to attend accredited postsecondary education institution in the United States or Canada full time or part time in fall of academic year following high school graduation
  • Applications evaluated on nondiscriminatory basis without consideration of race, age, national origin, religious affiliation, disability or P.E.O. connection

How to Apply

Application Process

1. Chapter Interview: Members of local P.E.O. chapter interview student before deciding to recommend her

2. Chapter Recommendation: Chapter votes on recommendation of student

3. Instructions: After chapter recommends student, P.E.O. Executive Office emails applicant with instructions for logging into online account

4. Timeline: Application must be submitted no more than 30 days after receiving email from P.E.O. Executive Office

5. Application Materials Required:
- Student information
- Extracurricular activities details
- Community service/volunteer activities documentation
- 700-word essay
- Two letters of recommendation
- Unofficial high school transcript (through 11th grade/junior year)

6. Submission: Online account submission

7. Notification: Awards announced annually by April 30 with notification sent to all applicants and recommending chapters
