Summary
The Georgia Ornithological Society offers the Lydia Thompson Grant to support projects that enhance the conservation of native birds in Georgia. Grants of up to $5,000 are available for initiatives focusing on research, public education, and habitat preservation. Preference is given to applications with matching funds. This grant is not intended for university-level research or projects by federal and state agencies. The initiative aims to foster community engagement in bird conservation efforts.Overview
Mission The Georgia Ornithological Society's (GOS) mission is to encourage the scientific study of birds by gathering and disseminating information on Georgia bird life. GOS actively promotes bird conservation by encouraging the preservation of habitats that are vital to the survival of resident and migratory birds. The GOS also gives scholarships, produces scientific publications, and provides fellowship among those interested in nature. About the Grant Grant money shall only be used for projects designed to benefit the conservation of native bird species, particularly those that reside in Georgia on a seasonal or annual basis, or those that visit stopover habitats in Georgia during migration. Applications on behalf of projects to be funded with these grants should limit requests to a maximum of $5,000 from GOS. Applications that feature matching funding are more likely to be supported. Application content should pertain to actual implementation of bird conservation projects, research projects, or public education/awareness projects, etc., that are specifically focused on the conservation of birds in Georgia.
