Open Education Resources (OER) Grants

Geographic Scope: Colorado

Program Overview:
A $1 million state program to expand use of open educational resources (OER) in Colorado community colleges. OER are publicly available teaching and learning materials available at no cost.

Focus Areas:

• Faculty and instructor development of OER
• Improving student access to low/no-cost learning materials
• Reducing textbook costs for students
• Supporting first-generation and low-income students

Impact:

• OER have collectively saved Colorado students more than $42 million since 2018
• Textbook prices have risen over 1,000% in 45 years; students spend average $1,200+/year on books/supplies
• 66% of students skip buying course materials due to cost

• Faculty and instructors developing OER
