NSEDC Scholarship Program

Overview: NSEDC's robust scholarship program supports member community residents in pursuing higher education and career development. One of the organization's foundational programs, established in 1992.

Eligibility:

  • Residents of NSEDC member communities

  • Students pursuing higher education

  • Full-time students eligible for maximum annual awards
  • Award Amounts:

  • $2,500 per semester (as of 2015)

  • Up to $7,500 per year for full-time students attending spring, summer, and fall semesters
  • Funding History:

  • Program began in 1992 with $30,000 initial allocation

  • By end of 2013: $6.5 million awarded

  • By end of 2014: $7.4 million awarded

  • 2014: 276 students received scholarships totaling nearly $800,000

  • 2013: 382 scholarships awarded for nearly $722,000

  • Program on track to exceed $8 million by end of 2015
  • Program Increases:

  • 2000: Increased to $1,000 per semester

  • 2007-2013: $2,000 per semester

  • 2013: Increased to $2,250 per semester

  • 2015: Increased to $2,500 per semester
  • Program Mission:

  • Supports residents pursuing careers as teachers, pilots, lawyers, mechanics, and other professions

  • Addresses tuition inflation and college cost increases
