Nominated Scholarship

Funder: Weehawken Creative Arts

Geographic Scope: Ridgway, CO area

Purpose: To support individuals who demonstrate interest in visual, performing, or literary arts and, due to economic circumstances, are unable to pay program tuition or fees (including basic materials such as leotards and shoes).

How It Works:

  • Candidates are nominated by "experts" (teachers, instructors, community members) who identify students with demonstrated arts interest and financial need

  • Nomination-based selection process focuses on identifying truly deserving candidates
  • Eligible Arts Programs:

  • Visual arts

  • Performing arts (dance, theater, karate)

  • Literary arts
  • Exclusions:

  • Scholarships are not available for Aerial/Circus classes or aerial silks program at this time
  • Expectations:

  • Weehawken expects scholarship recipients to attend all classes

  • Recipients are expected to make the class a priority

    Nomination Process

    Submission Format: Online nomination form submitted by nominator (teacher, instructor, or other qualified person)

  • Specific class or genre of interest (if any)

  • Listed tuition price for class or estimated tuition price

  • Amount or percentage of scholarship requested

  • Confirmation that nominee is aware of nomination
  • Step 5: Nomination Questions
    Nominator must provide detailed responses to:
    1. How long have you known the nominee and in what capacity?
    2. How does the nominee demonstrate an interest in the arts?
    3. How do you think the nominee would benefit from attending WCA's programs?
    4. Which arts program would the nominee benefit from most and why?
    5. Assessment of nominee's originality, creativity, maturity, and excitement for learning
    6. If granted a scholarship, will the nominee make this class a priority and attend all classes/events?
    7. Can nominator assist with attendance expectations?
    8. Why is the nominee deserving of this award?
    9. Description of nominator's understanding of the nominee's financial need
    10. Any other information to share

  • Important Notes:

  • Nominee should NOT enroll in class until after receiving scholarship decision notification

  • Upon receipt of application, a space will be held in requested class pending decision
