Needs Based Scholarship

Funder: Weehawken Creative Arts

Geographic Scope: Ridgway, CO area

Purpose: To support individuals who demonstrate interest in visual, performing, or literary arts but are unable to pay program tuition or fees due to economic circumstances.

Focus Areas:

  • Visual arts classes

  • Performing arts classes (dance, theater, karate)

  • Literary arts
  • Eligibility:

  • Students demonstrating financial need

  • Interest in arts programs offered by Weehawken Creative Arts

  • Must complete volunteer service requirement (minimum 8 hours per class scholarship per semester)
  • Award Limits:

  • Maximum up to 100% funding for 1 dance class or camp per semester

  • OR two regular arts classes per year

  • Simple scholarships: Maximum two dance class requests OR one non-dance class request per semester (up to 50% off each)
  • Exclusions:

  • Scholarships not available for Aerial/Circus classes or aerial silks program
  • Requirements if Awarded:

  • Expected to complete at least 8 hours of volunteer service per class scholarship during semester

  • Failure to complete volunteer hours results in expulsion from scholarship program in future

    Application Process

    Required Information:
    1. Applicant Information:
    - Full name
    - Physical and mailing address
    - Phone and email (primary and alternate)
    - Gender
    - Date of birth
    - Current grade (if in school)

    2. Household Information:
    - Number of adults in household
    - Ages of children in household
    - Parents'/guardians' occupation and employer
    - Applicant's occupation and employer (if applicable)

    3. Guardian/Emergency Contact Information:
    - Parent/Guardian name and phone
    - Primary and alternate emergency contacts with relation and phone numbers

    4. Class Information:
    - List all classes applying for scholarship
    - Provide listed tuition price for class(es)
    - Amount of scholarship money requested
    - Other WCA classes enrolling in
    - Other classes/programs enrolling in outside WCA
    - Previous aid/scholarship history with WCA

    5. Essays (Required):
    - Why you're interested in taking this class/these classes
    - Why you feel deserving of this award
    - Description of your financial need
    - How you plan to utilize what you hope to learn
    - Anything else you'd like to tell us

    6. Special Skills/Trade:
    - Optional: Describe any special skill willing to offer in trade for class or time limitations

    7. References:
    - Names and contact information of at least two references who can speak to your need
    - Relation to applicant

    Submission Requirements:

  • Electronic signature required

  • Completion of all required fields

  • Agreement to scholarship policies and volunteer requirement
  • Important Notes:

  • Do NOT enroll in class until after receiving scholarship decision notification

  • Upon receipt of application, a space will be held in requested class pending decision

  • Weehawken may not be able to grant all scholarship requests at 100% depending on number of applications
