NF Northeast Scholarship Program

Overview: Scholarships awarded annually to assist persons with Neurofibromatosis (NF) to continue their education after high school and pursue undergraduate degrees or trade school certificates. Funds raised at Steps2Cure NF road races and walkathons support this program.

Funding: NF Northeast has a limited scholarship fund; grant awards are based on the number of approved applicants. All recipients receive the same grant amount within a range of $500-$1,000.

Purpose: Grants are awarded to go towards college-related and vocational school related expenses, such as:

  • Tuition/fees

  • Books
  • Geographic Scope: Limited to Northeast region. Applicants must reside in the Northeast (list of eligible states provided on application page 1)

    Eligibility Criteria:

  • Individuals with NF

  • Entering or current undergraduate students pursuing:

  • - Associate's degree
    - Bachelor's degree
    - Vocational school certification
  • Enrollment at an accredited US-based college/university or trade/vocational school

  • Full-time basis students only

  • Important: Students can only receive this scholarship once

    Application Requirements & Process

    To be considered complete, all applications must include the following:

    1. Application Form: Complete, signed application
    - First and last name
    - High school name and address
    - High school cumulative GPA
    - Date of high school graduation
    - College/university name and address
    - Academic status for next school year (2026-2027)
    - Date of birth
    - Home address and zip code
    - Phone number and email
    - Parents' names and address (if different from applicant)
    - Annual tuition and fees for college/university or trade school
    - Total years remaining to complete degree (if applicable)
    - College/university GPA (if applicable)

    2. Essay Question Response:
    - Provide a response to: "Please tell us about your future goals, highlighting why you are applying for this scholarship and how you have overcome any challenges due to NF to reach your goals."
    - Optional: Provide any additional information the Committee should consider

    3. Letter of Recommendation:
    - From a teacher, coach, mentor, or similar

    4. Documentation:
    - For entering freshmen:
    - Official high school transcript
    - Acceptance letter or confirmation of enrollment from college/university or trade school
    - For current college/university students:
    - Official college/university transcript

    5. Community Involvement Information:
    - Extracurricular activities/interests
    - Work experience

    6. Certification & Consent:
    - Applicant certification that information is accurate and complete
    - Agreement that NF Northeast may verify any/all application materials
    - Permission for NF Northeast to use name, photograph (if submitted), likeness, personal information, and prize information in any media including the Internet for publicity and promotion purposes
    - Applicants are encouraged to share a digital photo for scholarship announcement in NF Northeast newsletter
