Overview

New Ulm Area Foundation General Grants

Geographic Scope: Communities within the geographic boundaries of Independent School District (ISD) 88 in Minnesota

Focus Areas (Four Pillars):

  • Arts: Promote the arts in the community to people of all ages and abilities; encourage community connections; broaden and create exposure to the arts

  • Education: Increase access to educational opportunities; promote educational opportunities for the community; promote area leadership development

  • Historic Preservation: Support education that preserves stories of the past; maintain and preserve structures on the historic registry; preserve the historic culture and beauty of the New Ulm area

  • Community Enhancement: Encourage projects with measurable, sustainable community impact; support emerging, innovative, or cross-sector initiatives; foster collaboration and community engagement (replaces Economic Development pillar as of 2026)
  • Funder: New Ulm Area Foundation, Inc. - A 501(c)(3) nonprofit community foundation

    About the Foundation: New Ulm Area Foundation consists of multiple named funds including the Somsen Fund, Macklin Fund, Nuvera Fund, Dr. James & Jane Seifert Fund, Charlotte Raymond Anderson Teaching Scholarship Fund, and general endowment funds. The foundation has been awarding grants since at least the 1990s and has a strong track record of supporting community vitality.

  • Evaluation plans for measuring success and results
  • Project Funding and Sustainability:
    1. How NUAF funds will be used
    2. Efforts to obtain additional funding from other sources and status
    3. Project promotion and marketing plans, including acknowledgment of NUAF funding
    4. Organizational plans for project sustainability and ongoing funding needs

    Required Attachments:
    1. 501(c)(3) Certification: Copy of U.S. Treasury letter certifying 501(c)(3) public charity status OR signed fiscal agent agreement (if applicable)
    2. Previous Grants History: List of past NUAF grant applications with years and amounts awarded
    3. Board of Directors: Names, occupations, and affiliations
    4. Project Personnel: Names, titles, duties, and availability for project duration
    5. Financial Documentation: Most recent annual financial report; brief narrative about other organizational programs if project is part of larger organization
    6. Project Budget: Complete budget showing income (grants, donations, existing funds, revenue) and expenses

    Certification:

  • Applicant must certify that information is accurate

  • Applicant must be authorized by organization to submit application

  • Organization agrees to hold NUAF harmless from claims related to the grant process
  • Submission:

  • Completed applications submitted online

  • Confirmation email sent to applicant upon submission with date and time stamp
