About The Foundation Moving Forward by Giving Back The Greater New Orleans Foundation is the philanthropic institution dedicated to driving positive impact through philanthropy, leadership, and action in the Greater New Orleans Region. Our roots extend back to the Community Chest of New Orleans established in 1923. For 100 years, we’ve connected our donors and fundholders with causes that they’re passionate about to affect transformational change. It’s how we help people make the most of their investment, while helping the members of our communities that need it most. But we don’t just do philanthropy. We provide civic leadership within the Greater New Orleans region to help address the biggest challenges facing the place we love, so that we can improve the everyday lives of the people that live here—today, tomorrow, and for generations to come. We have a long legacy of helping others help the people of the Greater New Orleans region. We helped make the most of generous donations in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, playing a key part in the recovery of the region. We created the Community Revitalization Fund, which has helped develop nearly 9,500 housing units. And we created the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund in 2010 to support the people affected by the worst oil spill in history. Along with those unique events, we help support our region on a daily basis. Now, we manage more than 900 funds in a variety of causes that have both short-term and long-term impact. And we’ll continue to do everything we can to make the Greater New Orleans region better now, and for generations to come.
