National Service-Learning Conference

Foundation supports Shinnyo-en youth and selects grantees to participate in the National Service-Learning Conference for an exchange of best practices, leadership development, professional networking, and learning opportunities.

Organizer: National Youth Leadership Council (organizing for over 30 years)

Geographic Scope: National (USA) - conference location rotates; 2025 conference held in St. Paul, Minnesota

Conference Focus:

• Highlights and promotes service-learning as a way of teaching and learning
• Builds academic and citizenship skills
• Renews communities

Audience:

• Kindergarten to higher education students and educators
• Administrators
• Pre-service teacher education staff and faculty
• Researchers
• Youth leaders
• Community-based organization staff
• Policy-makers
• Corporate and foundation officers

Shinnyo-en Foundation Involvement:

• Long-term sponsor
• Keynote speeches
• Workshop presentations
• Sponsorship of grantee participation
• Sponsorship of Shinnyo-en Youth Association (YA) members and temple staff participation
• Day of Service sponsorship: Off-site service day in conference host communities with group reflections, learning about community needs, and direct service projects at local organizations

Eligibility: Select affiliates, grantees, Shinnyo-en youth, and temple staff are invited to participate

How to Apply

Process:

1. Contact your Temple Manager or local YA (Youth Association) chief/sub-chief
2. Inquire about selection and application process
3. Participate through foundation sponsorship (by invitation/selection)
