Municipality of Anchorage: Mayor's Art Grants - General Category

The Municipality of Anchorage is offering the Mayor's Art Grants to support local nonprofit organizations in the arts and culture sector. With a total funding of $175,000, these grants aim to foster public engagement through various projects, including performances and accessible art. Eligible organizations must have 501(c)(3) status, be locally recognized, and adhere to a nondiscrimination policy. This initiative enhances community wellness by promoting cultural heritage and artistic expression.

Historically, the Mayor's Art Grants recognized and uplifted the work of presenters, producers, and community-based arts organizations that are 501(c)(3) nonprofits which offer visual art, theater, dance, music, and poetry in the Municipality of Anchorage. This long-standing local grant tradition supports organizations contributing to the municipality's wellness through beautifying public space, preserving and enriching cultural heritage, sparking community dialogue, and empowering local artists.
A total of $175,000 will be awarded to two types of projects this year. First, nonprofit organizations working in arts and culture will be awarded $75,000. We are seeking project proposals with a clear public engagement component. Projects could include performances incorporating audiences, programming open to the public, art accessible to the public, and beyond.

Eligibility

The organization must be a nonprofit entity with any form of a 501(c) federal tax exempt status and a physical office in the Municipality of Anchorage.The organization must have articles of incorporation and by-laws filed with the State of Alaska and be a recognized local chapter of a national organization.The organization must have a nondiscrimination policy for personnel, clients, volunteers.
