Overview

NOTE: Please submit your application 3 months before scheduled event.  In regards to the approval process, allow 6 weeks for a grant less than $25,000. If the application is over $25,000 an additional 6 weeks is required for County Council approval. Municipal Waste Reduction Grant (MO) Since 1996, the Solid Waste Management Program has provided grants to help fund innovative and sustainable programs to improve waste diversion in St. Louis County. The grant project must occur in St. Louis County. Funding for the grant program comes from St. Louis County voter-approved landfill surcharge fees. Grants for waste diversion projects are available to municipalities in St. Louis County to help fund projects and events that keep waste out of landfills or improve recycling opportunities for residents. Examples of past projects include: Backyard Composting Bin Distribution Electronics Recycling Collection Community Festival Recycling Collection Community Festival Recycling Outreach  Document Shredding And more! Municipalities may combine projects into one application. Only one application will be funded in one year. Applications must be submitted three months before the proposed project begins. A resolution from your city council or board is required. Projects over $25,000 can be considered but will require St. Louis County Council approval. Municipalities are responsible for a portion of costs, including the cost of administering the grant.

Ineligibility

We cannot fund neighborhood clean-ups, hazardous waste collection, or collection of items like tires or appliances.Grant funding will not cover:Administrative costs. The costs of producing or mailing municipal newsletters.
