Mount Prospect Lions Club Scholarship Program

Geographic Scope: Mount Prospect, Illinois residents only

Background: The Mount Prospect Lions Club offers scholarships through four named funds in honor of club members and past leaders, supporting the Lions Club International motto of "WE SERVE."

    Named Scholarship Awards

  • George Gattas Scholarship - In memory of a Past President and former Educator at Prospect High School
  • Tim Murphy Scholarship - In honor of former President and long-time Chairman of the Scholarship Committee
  • Mount Prospect Lions Scholarship - In honor of all deceased members of the Mount Prospect Lions Club
  • Bob & Judy Wille Scholarship - Acknowledging one of the founding families of Mount Prospect

    Eligibility Requirements

    Applicants must meet ALL of the following:
  • Must be a Mount Prospect resident
  • Current graduating high school senior
  • Evidence of academic achievement (e.g., National Honor Society, Honor Roll)
  • Accepted to an accredited institution (college or vocational school)
  • Exhibited participation in community service and school activities

    Award Notification & Presentation

  • Winners will be notified by telephone
  • Winners and their parents invited to Mount Prospect Lions Club Festival at Melas Park on July 4th for scholarship presentation

  • #### V. Community Interest & Activities

  • List volunteer work, service organization participation, church activities, etc.
  • #### VI. Personal Statement

  • Write a short essay (one page maximum) describing:

  • - A specific community service activity you participated in
    - Your role in the project
    - What you learned from the experience
    - Any special circumstances or needs the Committee should know about

  • Attach THREE (3) letters of reference addressed to the Scholarship Committee

  • Requirements:

  • - At least ONE from an instructor with knowledge of school performance
    - ONE from an employer (if employed or have been employed)
    - ONE from a coach, religious leader, community member, or other individual with knowledge of activities and achievements
