Mike Munchak Community Service Scholarship

Funder: United Way Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike

Purpose: To assist high school students from Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike (PA) who plan to pursue a post-secondary education.

Award Details:

Scholarship Amount: $6,300.00 (a one-time award to commemorate Mike Munchak's #63 which he wore throughout his playing days; his number 63 was retired by the Houston Oilers in 1996)

Duration: Awarded for a one (1) year period only

Total Awarded to Date: $88,200 awarded in the past fourteen years

Geographic Scope: Lackawanna, Wayne, and Pike Counties, Pennsylvania

Eligibility Criteria

Be a graduating high school senior from a public, private, parochial or charter school within Lackawanna, Wayne, or Pike Counties (PA)
Be a full-time resident and/or student of school districts within Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike Counties
Be actively involved in community service activities in programs funded by United Way
Demonstrate commitment through community service activities
Demonstrate academic achievement
Be accepted by an accredited university, college or trade school in a two or four year degree program track for the following school year
Scholarships are only considered for two year or four year degree programs at fully accredited universities, colleges or trade schools

Ineligibility

United Way staff, board members and their immediate families
Scholarship Selection Committee members and their immediate families
