District of Columbia Department of Health The mission of DC Health is to promote and protect the health, safety, and quality of life of residents, visitors, and those doing business in the District of Columbia. The agency is responsible for identifying health risks; educating the public; preventing and controlling diseases, injuries, and exposure to environmental hazards; promoting effective community collaborations; and optimizing equitable access to community resources. Maternal Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program Purpose DC Health promotes home visiting programs as a primary strategy to achieve developmental milestones in child well-being and school readiness to ensure that all children are healthy, ready to learn, and have a safe passage through the early years. The purpose of this funding is to ensure that children and families have access to a continuum of comprehensive, high-quality early childhood programs and services through home visiting. Through this funding, DC Health aims: To implement MIECHV using federally approved evidence-based home visiting models; and To support improved health outcomes for pregnant women and caregivers with children aged zero through three years old in the District; andStrengthen and improve home visiting program activities by enhancing the coordination of services for eligible families.
