Major Grants Program

Geographic Scope: Pelham, NY

Eligibility: Teachers and administrative staff in Pelham schools

Purpose: Fund major educational projects identified by the Foundation each year with direct input from administration and teaching staff involved with particular proposals.

Application Process:

• Foundation identifies several major projects each year
• Direct input from administration and teaching staff
• Reviewed by Project Development Committee at monthly board meetings
• Board votes on recommended grants
• Board of Education must accept grants after PEF approval
• All grants must first be reviewed by the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning, Claire Comerford

Review Timeline: Monthly board meetings September-June

Background: The Pelham Education Foundation has awarded over $3 million in grants since inception in 1995. Recent focus areas include 21st century teaching tools, technology integration, specialized facilities, core curriculum development, and the arts. Examples of recent major grants range from $1,100 to $103,000 for projects such as STEAM initiatives, technology infrastructure, anti-bullying programs, and facilities improvements.

Application Process

1. Submit application in Microsoft Word format by email
2. Send to: Heena Jain and Pilar Bartlett with copies to Claire Comerford
3. Application reviewed by Project Development Committee
4. Recommendations presented to Board of Directors at monthly meetings (September-June)
5. Board votes on recommended grants
6. Grant must be accepted by Board of Education after PEF approval
