Overview

Major Grants Program

Geographic Scope: New Mexico

Eligible Applicants:

  • Nonprofit organizations

  • Tribal governments

  • Governmental institutions

  • Must have a Unique Entity Identification (UEI) number actively registered through SAM.gov
  • Focus Areas:

  • Public humanities programming

  • Programs targeting new and underserved audiences

  • Humanities education and cultural engagement
  • Required Elements:

  • Programs must include public interaction and audience engagement

  • Appropriate formats include: virtual and in-person activities, interpretive exhibits, community dialogue and discussion series, panel discussions, lectures, conversations

  • Programs must provide Q&A sessions for direct audience engagement with scholars

  • One-to-one match requirement: equivalent amount of cash or in-kind resources within the contracted project performance period
  • Restrictions:

  • An organization cannot have more than one grant open at a time

  • If your organization has an open grant, it must be closed before a new subaward agreement and grant funds can be issued

  • A grant is considered closed when final reports have been reviewed and approved by NMHC staff and final payment has been issued

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Consultations:
    1. Consultations required for both new and returning applicants
    2. Must be scheduled via Google Meet
    3. Consultation Deadline: August 30th
    4. Both the Project Director and Fiscal Agent (who will sign the sub-award agreement) must attend
    5. ALERT: Applicants must confirm they have read the "How to Apply aka Getting Started" webpage or appointments may be cancelled

    Draft Application:

  • Draft Application Deadline: September 16th

  • Download sample application and budget form from "Get Started" page
  • Final Application:
    1. Letter of Intention (LOI) / Eligibility Screening Form must be submitted first
    - Allow minimum one week for NMHC staff to review and process
    - LOI must be submitted before online application becomes accessible in Foundant portal
    2. All final applications must be submitted within the Foundant grants management portal
    3. Final Application Deadline: October 1st

    Required Materials/Preparation:

  • Review "How to Apply and Get Started" page before consultation

  • Ensure organization has UEI number registered through SAM.gov

  • Prepare project budget using new budget categories

  • Identify key project personnel

  • Complete risk assessments

  • Prepare one-to-one match documentation
