Purpose: Endowment established in memory of Lynda "Lyn" Nelson (December 24, 1958 – December 9, 2022) to provide annual grants for golf programs focused on women, youth, and girls in the Bay Area.

About Lyn Nelson

• Long-time golf professional and advocate for women in golf
• Lifetime commitment to introducing golf to women, youth, and especially girls
• 43-year golf career spanning top leadership positions
• Professional Roles:
- General Manager at Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club - General Manager at University Club of Palo Alto - General Manager at Half Moon Bay Golf Links - Director of Golf and Golf Properties for the City and County of San Francisco (appointed by Mayor Ed Lee) - First Female Executive Director of the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) 2008-2013 - Oversaw 2014 Poppy Hills Golf Course renovation (named Renovation of the Year by Golf Magazine and Golf Digest)

Accomplishments

• Served on numerous boards: Harding Park Women's Golf Club, Navy Seal Foundation, California Alliance for Golf, The First Tee of San Francisco
• Founding member of the San Francisco Mayor's Women's Golf Council (2014)
• Development of the PDM program for women at the Olympic Club
• Co-chair of Players Services at the 2021 US Women's Open
• Helped resurrect the Harding Park Women's Golf Club
• Strong advocate for broadening golf's reach to embrace women, children, and diversity

Athletic Achievements

• Multi-sport high school athlete: basketball, flag football, field hockey, tennis, softball
• Hillsdale High School Athlete of the Year
• San Jose State University Lady Spartan Golf Team member
• Top 100 international amateur ranking (2007)
• Semifinalist in 2002 USGA Women's Mid Amateur Championship
• Quarterfinalist in 2003 USGA Women's Mid Amateur Championship
• Holds course records at Half Moon Bay (Old and Ocean courses)

Fund Status

• Initially funded by The San Francisco Mayor's Women's Golf Council
• Additional contributions from family, friends, and organizations accepted to grow the fund
