Load Management Program - Electric Water Heater

Geographic Scope: CEC service territory in Western Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Mercer, and Venango counties)
Program Type: Demand response/energy management program
Purpose
Allows cooperative members to become partners in controlling electricity rates by shifting energy usage of electric water heaters to off-peak hours. This stabilizes rates for all cooperative members and reduces power plant emissions.- CEC installs a demand response unit (DRU) on electric water heater (free of charge)
- The DRU interrupts power to the water heater during periods of peak energy demand
- Power is restored during off-peak hours
- Participants help stabilize future power costs and reduce environmental impact
How It Works
- Sign-up Credit: $100 bill credit for volunteering
- Reduced Rates: Potential long-term rate stability benefits
Award/Benefit
- Must be CEC member with electric water heater
- Home must be eligible (CEC will ask qualifying questions)
- Not Eligible: Large households, some mobile homes, seasonal locations, tanks installed by the cooperative

3. Schedule Installation: If eligible, arrange for free installation of DRU on water heater
4. Minimum Commitment: Agree to remain in program for minimum of 5 years
5. Receive Benefits: Get $100 sign-up bill credit and start receiving rate benefits
