Program Type: Demand response/energy management program

Purpose

Allows cooperative members to become partners in controlling electricity rates by shifting energy usage of electric water heaters to off-peak hours. This stabilizes rates for all cooperative members and reduces power plant emissions.

How It Works

• CEC installs a demand response unit (DRU) on electric water heater (free of charge)
• The DRU interrupts power to the water heater during periods of peak energy demand
• Power is restored during off-peak hours
• Participants help stabilize future power costs and reduce environmental impact

Award/Benefit

• Sign-up Credit: $100 bill credit for volunteering
• Reduced Rates: Potential long-term rate stability benefits

Eligibility

• Must be CEC member with electric water heater
• Home must be eligible (CEC will ask qualifying questions)
• Not Eligible: Large households, some mobile homes, seasonal locations, tanks installed by the cooperative

Commitment

• Minimum 5-year participation required
