Lenawee YOUTH Council Grants

Geographic Scope: Lenawee County, Michigan

Focus Areas: Youth-based projects and community service

Background: The Lenawee YOUTH Council (LYC) is a program of the Lenawee Community Foundation dedicated to providing young individuals in Lenawee County (ages 12-21) a space to participate in community service projects, collaborate with others, and develop leadership skills. The program was created with a $1 million grant from the Kellogg Foundation over 25 years ago to engage youth in community philanthropy. Over $1.1 million in grants and programs has been awarded to date.

Eligibility:

  • Youth groups and organizations in Lenawee County

  • Projects must demonstrate community value and build youth assets

  • Projects must provide evidence of active youth participation, youth volunteerism, and partnerships with LCF and its programs

  • At least one attendee from recipient group must participate in Lenawee Youth Leadership Camp
  • Funding Priorities:

  • Projects demonstrating community value and building youth assets

  • Active youth participation and volunteerism

  • Partnerships with Lenawee Community Foundation

  • Preference given to projects benefiting multiple communities across Lenawee County

  • Projects that commit to raising matching dollars

    Application Process

    1. Submit application electronically via the online portal
    2. Applications are reviewed by Lenawee YOUTH Council members for eligibility
    3. LYC members make recommendations to the Lenawee Community Foundation Board of Directors
    4. Board approves final grants

    Project Requirements:

  • Demonstrate community value and build youth assets

  • Provide evidence of active youth participation

  • Include youth volunteerism

  • Show partnerships with Lenawee Community Foundation and its programs

  • Ensure at least one attendee from recipient group participates in Lenawee Youth Leadership Camp
  • Timeline:
