About Us The Community Foundation of Dickinson County, Inc. was established in 1999 by a group of civic-minded individuals who cherished their community and wanted to ensure future generations experience the same quality of living they had received in Dickinson County. These visionaries secured the future of the Foundation by establishing an Endowed Founder’s Fund. Lavonne Geist Memorial Scholarship - (1) $400 Lavonne Geist was both an employee and a volunteer for the Dickinson County Heritage Center in Abilene. During her time there, her love for history, memories, and community artifacts grew. As the office manager for the Dickinson County Museum, her dedication went beyond the call of duty. She worked long and hard, spending many hours of her own time promoting Dickinson County and the many activities the Historical Society sponsored. She was a member of the End of the Trail Quilters Guild and the Heritage Homes Association, which works to preserve past traditions and styles. This memorial scholarship was established following Lavonne’s death in 1997 as a tribute to her dedication to history.
