Summary
The Lakken’s Legacy Survivor Scholarship, offered by the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation, awards $1,000 to brain tumor survivors pursuing education beyond high school. This initiative honors Lakken, who faced challenges during her cancer journey yet remained passionate about education. The scholarship aims to support individuals diagnosed with brain or spinal cord tumors before age 21, ensuring they have the opportunity to continue their studies in various educational institutions. It's a commitment to empower survivors and foster their dreams.Overview
About The Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) was founded in 1988 by a group of dedicated parents, physicians, and friends to improve the treatment, quality of life, and the long term outlook for children with brain and spinal cord tumors through research, support, education, and advocacy to families and survivors. In addition to providing funds to research a cure, the organization is the nation’s leader in quality of life programs for families impacted by brain and spinal cord tumors. We support families from the day of diagnosis and throughout the brain tumor journey. CBTF believes in the importance of being responsive to the needs of everyone in the brain tumor community regardless of their racial/ethnic background. We believe in the importance of a culture that values people of all racial/ ethnic backgrounds. We value the many identities that an individual brings to the community and honor and appreciate the intersections of these identities. Our practice values respect, integrity and honesty. We are committed to inclusiveness. Lakken’s Legacy Survivor Scholarship Thank you for applying for the Lakken's Legacy Survivor Scholarship. One of Lakken’s least favorite parts of her initial cancer journey was all the days of school she had to miss for appointments. Her love for school, combined with her respect and admiration of her teachers, inspired her to pursue a major in early childhood education. In a scholarship essay she submitted regarding why she wanted to become a teacher, Lakken wrote, “there is nothing more rewarding than knowing that you are making a difference in the lives of others, and that is what I hope to do.” To fulfill her wish of helping others, Lakken’s family is offering one $1,000 scholarship to any brain tumor survivor, furthering their education after high school.Eligibility
