About The Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) was founded in 1988 by a group of dedicated parents, physicians, and friends to improve the treatment, quality of life, and the long term outlook for children with brain and spinal cord tumors through research, support, education, and advocacy to families and survivors. In addition to providing funds to research a cure, the organization is the nation’s leader in quality of life programs for families impacted by brain and spinal cord tumors. We support families from the day of diagnosis and throughout the brain tumor journey. CBTF believes in the importance of being responsive to the needs of everyone in the brain tumor community regardless of their racial/ethnic background. We believe in the importance of a culture that values people of all racial/ ethnic backgrounds. This opportunity is given in memory of Lakken Burzynski by her family. “Overcoming cancer was not an easy thing to do, but I was able to overcome it with help from my family and friends. My loved ones were always with me throughout my treatment to bring me hope and positivity. Having cancer was the toughest time of my life, but it helped to keep a positive outlook and to remember that it will get better soon. You never know when your life will be gone, so you have to live each day as if it is your last.” This is an excerpt from a scholarship essay Lakken had submitted. To honor her legacy and her love for her family, we are offering this $1,000 scholarship to any sibling of a child diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Eligibility

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have been diagnosed with a brain or spinal cord tumor before the age of 21, Reside in the United States and have not been awarded a CBTF scholarship within the last 12 months. Applicants must be a senior in high school or older. This $1000 scholarship is for students attending or preparing to attend two-year, four-year, graduate and technical schools.
