Overview

American Society of Civil Engineers The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 160,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. Founded in 1852, ASCE is the nation’s oldest national civil engineering society. ASCE stands at the forefront of a profession that plans, designs, constructs, and operates society’s economic and social engine – the built environment – while protecting and restoring the natural environment. Through the expertise of its active membership, ASCE is a leading provider of technical and professional conferleadersences and continuing education, the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public. The Society advances civil engineering technical specialties through nine dynamic institutes and leads with its many professional- and public-focused programs. Knut Eriksen Leadership and Management Fellowship Knut Eriksen, P.E., M.ASCE, a member of ASCE since 1983, donated funds for this fellowship in 2022. His intent for this fellowship is to encourage civil engineering students and young engineers, 35 years of age or younger, who are licensed or in the process of becoming licensed, to pursue advanced degrees in leadership and management in order to focus their civil engineering career on leadership and management in education and practice. It was instituted by the Board of Direction on October 6, 2024. The Knut Eriksen Leadership and Management Fellowship may be presented annually to not more than two graduate civil engineering students, who will use the fellowship for tuition, research, and living expenses. The purpose of the fellowship is to further the education of worthy students pursuing advanced degrees, such as an MBA or another graduate management degree in leadership and management in addition to their degree in civil engineering, in preparation for leadership, management, and executive level positions in the civil engineering profession as a career goal.
