Program Description:
The Kiwanis Club of Carefree's flagship scholarship program has been awarding scholarships since 1986, starting with a single $500 award. The program has grown significantly, awarding over $500,000 annually to deserving high school seniors.

Award Categories:

4-Year Scholarships: Full-tuition scholarships for four-year universities

2-Year Scholarships: Support for community college attendance

Merit Awards: Recognizing achievement in specific areas:

- Art & Humanities Merit
- Foreign Language Merit
- Math & Science Merit
- Athletic Merit
- Key Club Merit

Named Scholarships:

William Rockford "Personal Achievement" Award: 4-year scholarship honoring private donor William Rockford's commitment to education

Jim Shaw "Community Service" Award: 4-year scholarship honoring Jim Shaw's legacy as a long-time Kiwanis member and community servant

Rick Heiken "Kiwanis Club/Key Club" Award: 4-year scholarship honoring Rick Heiken's service as Club President (2018-2019) and his instrumental role in establishing youth clubs

High school seniors from participating schools in the Desert Foothills area

Primary focus on Cave Creek Unified School District students

Funding Source:
Funds are generated through community donations to the Kiwanis Marketplace thrift store in Cave Creek.
