About Us
The Community Foundation of Dickinson County, Inc. was established in 1999 by a group of civic-minded individuals who cherished their community and wanted to ensure future generations experience the same quality of living they had received in Dickinson County. These visionaries secured the future of the Foundation by establishing an Endowed Founder’s Fund.
Since the original investment of $250K, the Foundation has grown to over 200 Funds and over $21M in assets! Area non-profits, schools, local governing entities, and students have benefited by receiving over $14M in grants and scholarships!
The Community Foundation continues its mission:
* to connect donors with their charitable giving priorities
* serve as a resource for local non-profit organizations
* provide leadership to the communities.
June DeWeese Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established by the board of directors for Kids In Crisis as a memorial to June DeWeese and her service as the Director of Kids In Crisis. June DeWeese, renowned for her dedicated 27 years of teaching journalism in English at Chapman schools, has always harbored a deep fondness for nurturing young minds. However, it was her role as the Red Cross Director for the Dickinson County chapter that opened her eyes to the pressing needs of vulnerable families and children within the community. Witnessing firsthand the extent to which the region grappled with poverty, she was moved to action. Thus, the seeds of her brainchild, Kids In Crisis, were sown. The Eisenhower Marathon was first established to raise money for awareness of Kids In Crisis.
