Overview

John Earhart Memorial Scholarship John was born April 27, 1948 and died of an incurable disease at age 56, August 18, 2004. He graduated from Zanesville High School and Ohio University. His desire was to be able to make a difference for others and felt that he could best do so by serving his God and becoming a minister. He received his Masters degree from the Methodist Theological School with additional certifications in Pastoral Counseling. He began his career as chaplain at the State Mental Health facility. He then returned to Zanesville and served in several small country churches while employed as the Director of Pastoral Care at Good Samaritan Medical Center. During his last 13 years at Good Samaritan he was the Human Resource Director. He also served as the Associate Pastor at Coburn Methodist and then Minister of Immanuel Church where he was pastor at the time of his death. John worked part time as a counselor at the Samaritan Counseling Center and was adjunct faculty at Zane State College teaching Psychology. He was always civic minded and was active with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society and he was a member of Kiwanis. Throughout his career, he served on various boards including Catholic Social Services, Muskingum Valley Personnel Association, Downtown Clergy Association, and the Helen Purcell Home. He was a strong believer in education, not only as a way to help oneself, but as a means to better help others. His warmth and gentle spirit touched many lives over his career and could most assuredly say at the end of his life, he did make a difference.
