Summary

The Junior League of Houston is introducing the Community Assistance Pilot Program to support early-stage organizations in the greater Houston area. This program will provide up to three agencies with $10,000 annually for three years, aiming to enhance their capacity in key focus areas: Children’s Education, Health and Well-Being, and Basic Needs. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) non-profits with a clean legal record and less than $1 million in assets.

Community Assistance Pilot Program This year the Junior League of Houston is launching a Community Assistance pilot that may award up to three agencies $10,000 for their operating funds every year for three years starting this upcoming year with the goal of helping early-stage organizations increase their capacity to make a positive impact in the greater Houston community. Focus Areas The focus areas for this year is listed below: Children’s Education Children and Women’s Health and Well-Being Whole Family Basic Needs

Eligibility

Eligibility to participate is based on the following:Non-profit status: The agency must be incorporated as a 501(c)(3) and must have been operating for at least three years.Mission Alignment: Organizations must align to one or more of the Junior League of Houston’s focus areas which include Children’s Education, Children and Women’s Health and Well-Being, and Whole Family Basic Needs.Geography: Due to volunteer capacity and availability, participation in the Community Assistance Pilot is available to organizations in the areas the Junior League of Houston currently serves which includes Brazoria, Fort Bend, Harris, and/or Waller Counties, Texas.Financial: Organizations have assets less than one million dollars. As part of the organization’s consideration, JLH will request financial information to ensure compliance and facilitate future planning. Ideally, the organization would be able to provide audited financials. In the event audited financials are not available, financial information requested by JLH includes but is not limited to a recent budget, budget-to-actual report, statement of activities (similar to an income statement), statement of financial position(similar to a balance sheet), statement of cash flow and/or statement of expenses.Directors’ and Officers’ Insurance: Must have Directors and Officers insurance to be considered if interested in also applying for the Outside Board Representative program.Legal Compliance: Compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations is critical. The organization should have a clean legal record and adhere to all reporting and filing requirements. Organizations should include a statement about any pending or past litigation, if applicable.Accessibility and Inclusivity: JLH is dedicated to supporting organizations that are accessible and inclusive in the communities in which they serve. Additionally, the organization should aim to create a sense of belonging for those associated with the organization (e.g., staff members, volunteers, beneficiaries, partners and board members).
