JEWEL Scholarship Program

Program Name: Joint Endeavor for Women in Education and Leadership (JEWEL)

Geographic Scope: North Central Michigan College (NCMC) students in Petoskey, Michigan area

Focus Areas:

  • Access to resources addressing barriers disproportionately faced by women
  • Eligibility:

  • All backgrounds welcome to apply

  • Students with financial need

  • Students with limited educational support resources

  • First-generation college students (those among the first in their families to attend college)

  • NCMC students
  • Award Details:

  • Guaranteed Award: $1,000 annual scholarship

  • Duration: 2-year commitment throughout NCMC program

  • Additional Support: Students may apply for other WRCNM and NCMC scholarships to help cover educational and living expenses
  • Program Components:

  • JEWEL events attendance

  • Student development course completion

  • Monthly mentorship meetings with community mentors

  • Regular meetings with academic advisor and student success coordinator

  • Mentors commit to 2-year partnership with students
  • Program Timeline:

  • First cohort: 10 students selected for fall 2023

  • Second cohort: 10 students to begin fall 2024

  • Mentor orientation held in summer (July example provided)
