The Journal of the American Musical Instrument Society is published annually by the American Musical Instrument Society, Inc. (AMIS), an international organization founded in 1971 to promote the study of the history, design, and use of musical instruments of all cultures and from all periods. The Journal welcomes articles representing original research on the construction, history, sociology, and conservation of instruments, and on questions of performance practice relating to particular instruments.

The Journal of the American Musical Instrument Society shall have the right of first refusal for the resulting article, which must be submitted to the Journal within two years of receipt of the grant.The Editorial Board of the Journal reserves the right to make no award in a given year, should there be no proposal of appropriate quality. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Applicants must be members of the American Musical Instrument Society.
