Overview

Maine Community Foundation Founded in 1983, the Maine Community Foundation brings people and resources together to build a better Maine through strategic giving, community leadership, personalized service, local expertise and strong investments. The Maine Community Foundation established its first scholarship fund in 1984. Now, through the generosity of individuals, community organizations, and businesses that believe in the importance of education, the community foundation awards more than $3 million each year from nearly 700 scholarship funds. MaineCF scholarships provide financial assistance for Maine residents attending accredited colleges, universities, technical and career schools. The funds also support students attending private high schools, camps, and experiential learning programs. James Foley Scholarship Fund The James Foley Scholarship Fund was established by his daughter to support Maine students attending nursing school. James grew up in a large family of limited means and attended Texas A&M University during the Great Depression. James’ father offered him $100 if he could graduate a year early, so James graduated at age 16 from high school and from college at the age of 20, as part of the first class of petroleum engineers at Texas A&M. The James Foley Scholarship Fund provides renewable scholarship support to second, third-, and fourth-year nursing students with financial need who live in Maine.
