Individual Travel Scholarships

Overview: The DCIS Foundation offers scholarships for DPS high school students traveling alone to engage in full-time educational travel (typically study abroad programs).

Award Amount: $1,000 per student

Geographic Scope: Denver Public Schools (DPS) high school students; travel can be national or international

Travel Level: ADVANCED - Students take full responsibility for planning, fundraising, and travel logistics while gaining confidence, self-reliance, critical intercultural skills, and a well-rounded, thoughtful perspective.

Eligibility:

  • Any individual DPS high school student in good standing (2.5 cumulative GPA or above)

  • Students traveling alone (not group travel)

  • Full-time educational travel/study abroad programs

  • Travel (national or international) must be completed while student is in high school

  • All schools in DPS are eligible
  • Travel Options:

  • Vendor examples include: CIEE, Adolesco, high school study abroad programs, etc.

  • Students can refer to RESOURCES & INSIGHT page for vendor ideas

  • Intercultural education and immersive learning

  • Study abroad and solo educational travel

    Application Steps:

    1. Access Application Portal: Click green application button (opens March 1)
    2. Watch Orientation Video: Complete "About the DCIS Foundation" short video
    3. Fill Out Application Sections:
    - Instructions
    - Student Information (attach PDF of transcript)
    - Trip Information and Logistics
    - Approximate Budget and Costs
    - Short student essay (see prompt below)
    - Letter of Recommendation (upload separate document)
    - Travel Agreement
    4. Submit Application: Submit before April 10 deadline
    5. Make Changes: Can edit and make changes any time before deadline
    6. Attend Interview: Finalists interviewed in mid-April
    7. Award Notification: Winners announced at Gala (last Saturday in April)
