Overview

Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program (CBRAP)

Geographic Scope: Illinois state-wide (outside Cook County)

Overview: The Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program provides emergency funding to Illinois tenants and landlords across the state who have pending eviction cases in court. Economic Growth Corporation serves as a Housing Stability Services Provider assisting with applications.

    Award Amount

  • Up to $25,000 in emergency rental payments
  • Can include up to 15 months of past-due rent
  • Can include up to 3 months of future rent payments

    Eligible Applicants

    Tenants may qualify if:
  • Currently in a court eviction proceeding due to nonpayment
  • Experienced financial hardship during COVID-19 pandemic
  • Household income at or below 80% of area median income, adjusted for household size
  • Rent a home in Illinois
  • Proof of citizenship is NOT required
  • Rental assistance is NOT a "public charge" benefit

Application Requirements for Tenants

Required Documentation:

  • Eviction court complaint

  • Summons and court case number

  • Government-issued photo ID (regardless of expiration date)

  • Proof of address

  • Evidence of household income
