Ignite Fellowship

Overview: An immersive, experiential learning opportunity for high school students from underserved schools and communities designed to inspire passion for STEM.

Target Audience:

  • High school students (ages 15-18)

  • From underserved schools and communities
  • Program Details:

  • Duration: 12-14 day field research expeditions

  • Location: Around the United States

  • Activities: Students join leading scientists on field research expeditions

  • Learning Outcomes:

  • - Gain practical insight into the scientific process
    - Prepare to engage more deeply with science curriculum in classroom
    - Participate meaningfully in real scientific research

  • Background: Earthwatch grants over $500,000 per year in fellowships through highly competitive, need-based application process to students and teachers who would not otherwise have ability to participate. For most student fellows, their Earthwatch expedition is their first significant travel from home and first travel without family.
