Education Fellowships (General)

Earthwatch grants over $500,000 per year in fellowships through a highly competitive, need-based application process to students and teachers who would not otherwise have the ability to participate on Earthwatch expeditions.

Target Audience:

• Students (high school and college) from underserved communities
• Teachers from underserved schools
• Priority for those with financial need

Purpose:

• Enable access to transformative field research experiences
• Remove financial barriers to participation
• Empower next generation of STEM leaders
• Provide hands-on science training for educators

Impact:

• For most student fellows: first significant travel from home, first travel without family
• For most teacher fellows: first hands-on science education training in many years (if ever)

Specific Programs Under This Umbrella:

1. Ignite Fellowship (high school students, 12-14 day expeditions)
2. Girls in Science Fellowship (high school girls, 7-day expeditions)
3. Teach Earth Fellowship (teachers, professional development)
4. Project Kindle (teachers leading student groups)
