Horizon Bank Community Grant Program

The Horizon Bank Community Grant Program aims to enhance local communities by funding initiatives in education, arts, and economic development. With grants starting at $5,000, the program supports 501(c)(3) organizations addressing housing needs for low- to moderate-income families. Applications are accepted annually, with a strong emphasis on corporate citizenship and community involvement. However, grants are not available for political activities or organizations that discriminate. This commitment reflects Horizon Bank's dedication to fostering community growth and responsibility.

Horizon Bank was founded as a community bank in Michigan City, Indiana, and has been putting down roots the right way ever since. Advisors are purposely hired from local communities and empowered to act. Because local knowledge is the most valuable knowledge.
The mission of our Horizon Cares Community Grant Programs is to make a positive difference in the future of our communities by supporting education, arts, economic development and community efforts that meet the housing needs of low- to moderate-income families. In addition to the growth and prosperity of our communities through economic development, these programs also help us lead the way in corporate citizenship, volunteering our time and fulfilling unmet needs of our neighbors.
Application for a Horizon Cares Charitable Grant is annual. Applications will be reviewed by the Horizon Cares Charitable Grant Committee and awarded every January.

Eligibility

Horizon Cares qualificationsHorizon-Cares Charitable Grant Program will consider awarding grants of $5,000.00 or more to programs and/or organizations that are an organization described in Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. If the application requests a grant for a one-time project, the request may be for all or for part of the cost of the project. If the application requests a grant for an ongoing project, the application must request funding for all or part of the project for one year only. Programs or organizations must secure financial commitments from other reliable sources to cover ongoing financial needs in the future. Other financial resources can include government agencies, charitable organizations, self-supporting ticket sales or other options. Grants to be used for a building program can be up to 2% of the total cost of the building project. Applications for grants that would enable the requesting organization to receive matching funds are encouraged.

Ineligibility

Grants will not be considered for: Any organization that engages in any project or function that is political in nature; Any organization engaged in lobbying any government group through a registered lobbyist; Any group that makes a contribution of cash, goods, services or facilities to any candidate for an elected office or to a political party; Any group that endorses a political candidate or political party; Any group that assists in promoting any political candidate or political party through the display of posters, signs or in any other manner;Any organization that discriminates as defined under federal law through its membership practices or in the way it distributes the benefit of its activities (groups protected against discrimination include race, creed, color, national origin, gender, age, Vietnam era or disabled veteran status, or handicap.
