Overview

Holloran Program

Overview: The Holloran Trust Fund, established in 1967, provides assistance to low-income legally blind individuals. The program has assisted over 400 people in the last five years.

Geographic Scope:

  • Kentucky: Jefferson, Bullitt, Hardin, Oldham, Shelby, and Spencer Counties

  • Indiana: Clark, Floyd, and Harrison Counties
  • Focus Areas: Assistance with almost anything at committee discretion, including:

  • Low vision equipment and aids

  • Household repairs, appliances, accessibility equipment installation

  • TARC tickets and transportation assistance

  • Medical and dental expenses
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Individual must be legally blind in both eyes

  • Must be a resident of one of the specified counties

  • Application must be completed and submitted to KLEF

  • Must provide verification of legal blindness

  • Must provide verification of need

  • Must provide documentation of monthly support (income statement, food stamp letter, disability letter, paycheck stub, etc.)

  • Holloran Committee meets every other month to review applications

  • Committee reviews and votes on approval

  • Applicant notified via phone or mail of committee's decision

    How to Apply for Holloran Fund Assistance

    1. Complete Application: Fill out the Holloran Program application
    2. Gather Documentation: Provide the following with application:
    - Verification of legal blindness
    - Verification of financial need
    - Documentation of monthly support (examples: income statement, food stamp letter, disability letter, paycheck stub)
    - Do not send original documents
    3. Submit to KLEF: Send completed application and documentation to KLEF
    4. Committee Review: KLEF forwards information to Holloran Committee
    5. Committee Decision: Holloran Committee meets every other month to review applications and vote
    6. Notification: Applicant notified via phone or mail of committee's decision

  • Proof of legal blindness in both eyes

  • Verification of residency in eligible counties

  • Verification of financial need

  • Documentation of monthly income support (copies, not originals)
