Ho'omaka Hou - A New Beginning Fund The Ho'omaka Hou - A New Beginning Fund is a scholarship for those who have faced difficulties or major crises in the past and are finding a way to overcome them. In some cases, poor decisions may have led down a destructive or unfulfilling path, causing social problems such as substance abuse or domestic violence. Some may not have always had the dream or desire to pursue schooling for a specific career but are now at a point in their lives where education is a priority. With help and guidance, they are ready to make changes in their lives and realize hope through education.The Ho'omaka Hou Scholarship was established with these students in mind.

HCF Criteria:Be a resident of the State of Hawaii Demonstrate financial need Be in good academic standing or by maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0Donor Criteria:Attend a college or university in Hawai'i In a separate essay, briefly describe how your life was personally impacted by a social problem you experienced such as: incarceration, substance abuse, homelessness, domestic abuse or violence. If applicable, also, tell us how a social services agency or organization (for example: child protective services, counselors, foster care, rehabilitation services, doctors, etc.), helped to guide and support your positive change which has now led you to seek higher education.
