Historic Rural Log Building Grant Program

    Geographic Scope

  • Rural East Texas communities with populations under 10,000
  • Previously included on Preservation Texas's Most Endangered Places list
  • Focus on pre-1936 log buildings

    Eligibility

  • Eligible Applicants: Nonprofits, government entities, and private property owners
  • Property Requirements: Historic, pre-1936 log buildings located in eligible rural communities
  • Preference: Given to buildings that are, or will be, regularly open to the public

    Project Requirements

  • Match Requirement: 25% cash match required
  • Reimbursement Basis: Grants awarded on a reimbursement basis
  • Completion Deadline: Projects must be fully completed by March 2028
  • National Register: Property must be listed on the National Register of Historic Places by March 2028

    Selection Criteria

    Applications evaluated using a scoring matrix considering:
  • Preservation urgency
  • Project readiness
  • Community impact

  • Save endangered log buildings in Texas
  • Sustain craft traditions needed to preserve and maintain log buildings
  • Document and preserve early Texas history
  • Support economic development through preservation
