Overview

Greater Rome Impact Fund

Overview: The Community Foundation for Greater Rome's flagship donor fund designed to create lasting, community-wide impact by providing crucial funding to local nonprofits making a difference.

Geographic Scope: Floyd County, Georgia

Eligibility:

  • 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organizations in good standing within Floyd County, Georgia

  • Organizations may submit one application per grant cycle

  • If organization is not currently linked to a 501(c)(3), may work with a fiscal sponsor (contact Jennifer Scott at jscott@cffgr.org)
  • What They Look For:

  • Programs/projects that positively impact quality of life in the community

  • Address significant needs or opportunities affecting broad segments of population or special populations

  • Ability to leverage other funding through matching grants or gifts

  • Demonstrated capacity to provide services using good administrative and financial management

  • Enable collaboration between community organizations
  • Focus Areas: Focus areas announced in Summer 2026

    What They Don't Fund:

  • Grants for individuals

  • Capital campaigns

  • Deficit financing and debt retirement

  • Endowments

  • Political organizations or campaigns

  • Lobbying legislators or influencing elections

  • Special fundraising events/celebration functions

  • Marketing endeavors and personal research

  • Core operating expenses (with limited exceptions for new organizations)

  • Projects typically funded by federal, state, or local governments

  • Scholarship programs

  • Programs already completed or finishing in current calendar year
  • Special Note on Core Operating Expenses: The Community Foundation will consider funding new organizations for start-up or operating support on a case-by-case basis, requiring: significant condition being addressed and measurable, organizational ability to address problem, awareness of other organizations in same area and rationale for being best organization to do work, likelihood of achieving described outcomes, and plans to ensure program continuation after grant funds expended.

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Review Requirements: Review grant requirements and determine if your organization is eligible. Contact The Community Foundation at (706) 728-3453 for assistance.

    2. Complete Application: Complete the 2026 GRIF Grant Application (Google form, active and linked beginning August 1, 2026) and submit by 5:00 pm on August 31, 2026. Requires free Google email account.

    3. Review Process:
    - Community Foundation staff reviews application
    - Application assigned to Citizen Grant Review Panel made up of volunteer community leaders
    - Panel may conduct site visits or telephone interviews for proposals selected for extensive evaluation
    - Grants Panel makes funding recommendations to Community Foundation's Board of Directors
    - Board of Directors makes final decision at late September board meeting
    - Applicants notified of grant decisions

    Note: The review committee will have complete discretion whether or not to review late proposals.

    Additional Funds Considered in Same Application:

  • The First Christian Church Heritage Fund ($9,000 available in 2025): Supports projects that either enrich spiritual lives, support diversity and inclusiveness, or further social justice

  • The Spiegelberg Memorial Fund: Supports education and welfare of worthy and needy children in Rome community

  • The Villa Hizer Fund: Focus areas announced Summer 2026
  • No separate applications necessary for these funds.
