Overview:
One of five annual Grawemeyer Awards presented by the University of Louisville and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary to recognize innovative ideas and works.

History:
Established in 1984 by Charles Grawemeyer, a UofL graduate, former seminary trustee, and philanthropist. The awards were created to recognize the power of creative thought and underscore the impact a single idea can have on the world.

Award Recipients:

  • Recipients are asked to visit Louisville in April to accept their prizes

  • Recipients give free public talks about their winning ideas

  • Laypeople are involved in award selection to ensure broad understanding of the winning ideas
