Collaboration and evidence-based practices are encouraged to effectively address the needs of crime victims.

Overview

About the Governor’s Crime Commission The Governor’s Crime Commission (GCC) serves as the chief advisory body to the Governor and to the Secretary of Public Safety on crime and justice issues. Commission Members include the heads of statewide criminal justice agencies, appointed state and local government officials, and private citizens. GCC also serves as the State Administering Agency (SAA), the executive branch agency designated to apply for federal criminal justice funding from the US Department of Justice on behalf of the State. These federal funds, along with state appropriated funds, are distributed to state and local criminal justice agencies and non-profits through a grant application process voted on annually by the Commission. Interested agencies must submit grant applications with GCC each year. Funding priorities and grant award selection are determined by the GCC Commission members. Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) - Victim Assistance Grant The goal of VOCA Victim Assistance funding is to improve the treatment of victims of crime by funding programs and services that provide victims with the assistance, support, and services necessary to aid their restoration and healing after a criminal act. Under this funding source, the Governor’s Crime Commission is particularly interested in applications that meet the needs of historically marginalized and underserved victims of crime populations. The Committee encourages programs that involve multi-disciplinary partnerships, local or regional collaborations, and evidence-based practices to meet the needs of crime victims.
