Golden Futures Scholarship

Purpose: Identify, support, and hone the talents of Lee County high school students who wish to become teachers. Program aims to keep interested students in the community and recruit teachers from within the School District of Lee County.

Geographic Scope: School District of Lee County, Florida

Eligible Recipients:

• High school seniors attending a Lee County District School
• Students who exemplify qualities of educational leadership
• Students who demonstrate passion to teach

Award Details:

• Amount: Four years of full tuition coverage
• Partner Institutions: Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) and Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW)
• Funding: Paid through partnership with FGCU and FSW, plus sponsorships and School District fundraisers

Conditions of Scholarship:

• Recipients must complete a minimum of four years of service to Lee County District Schools upon graduation
• Requirement to commit to teaching in the local school district

Support Provided:

• Mentoring and support from members of the Academy of Teachers throughout college
• Continued support into initial years in the classroom
• Connection to experienced educators through the Academy of Teachers network

Application Process

Nomination and Selection:

• High schools nominate eligible senior students
• Selection committee composed of principals, counselors, and staff of the FLCPS
• Committee reviews nominees based on:
  • Exemplification of educational leadership qualities
  • Demonstrated passion to teach
  • Student achievements and potential
