Gerald Kahan Scholar's Prize Grant

The Gerald Kahan Scholar's Prize, awarded by the American Society for Theatre Research, honors the best essay published in English in a refereed scholarly journal or edited collection within the field of theater research. Eligible authors must be untenured and within seven years of their doctorate or enrolled in a doctoral program. The prize includes a $500 honorarium and complimentary registration for the ASTR annual meeting, acknowledging the editor's contribution to scholarship.

NOTE: If the online publication date differs from the publisher's copyright date, submitters must choose between the two. Submitters may not apply for the same award with the same essay in multiple years.
Purpose
The American Society for Theatre Research offers an annual award for the best essay written and published in English in a refereed scholarly journal or edited collection. The essay can be on any subject in theater research, broadly construed.  The Kahan Prize presentation at the ASTR annual meeting also includes an acknowledgement of the editor’s contribution to scholarship.
Award
This award provides a $500 honorarium and complimentary conference registration.

Eligibility

The author must be untenured and within seven years of the doctorate, or must be enrolled in a doctoral program at the time the essay is published.
Applicant must be a current ASTR member during this awards cycle.
