Overview

Public Service Memorial Grant The Georgia Public Service Memorial (GPSM) Grant provides grant funds to be used towards the cost of attendance, while enrolled in an undergraduate or Graduate program of study, at eligible colleges, universities or technical colleges in Georgia. The annual award may be applied towards any cost of attendance as set by the eligible postsecondary institution. The award amount is based on cost of attendance minus any other student financial aid and not to exceed the annual amount of $18,000. The grant is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and as appropriated funds are available. The lifetime maximum award amount is $72,000.

Eligibility

Be the Spouse or child of a Georgia Public Safety Officer who was permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty; andBe the Spouse or child of a Georgia Public School Employee who was killed or permanently disabled due to an Act of Violence while performing employment duties; andThe Spouse must have been married to the Public School Employee at the time of the Act of Violence (qualifying event)Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) of eligible permanent resident alien status; andBe a legal resident of Georgia 12 months prior to receiving aid; and Be enrolled in a Georgia public or private college, university or technical college as a undergraduate or Graduate student seeking a college degree or technical certificate/diploma; andBe in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements; andMaintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college; and Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990; and Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program.Eligibility for students who are children of a Public Service Officer or Public School Employee will expire when one of the following occurs:Ten years from their high school graduation, high school equivalency diploma or home study completion date; orHas reached the lifetime maximum award amountEligibility for students who are the Spouse of a Public Service Officer or Public School Employee will expire when one of the following occurs:Ten years from the qualifying event; orHas reached the lifetime maximum award amountThe Spouse must have been married to the Public School Employee at the time of the qualifying event.Eligibility expires on June 30 of the tenth full year of high school graduation or the date of the qualifying event unless the student has reached the lifetime maximum award amount.
